Construction Centre of Excellence is one of the flagships that CETA has endorsed after the Department of Labour has challenged all SETA’s to establish Institute of Sectoral or Occupational Excellence. Construction Centre of Excellence will play an integral part of CETA’s vision and mission for delivering quality training within the sector as well as secure workplace experience and employment. CETA has and will continue to establish MOU’s with training centres that are closely connected to the industry stakeholders whereby the industry will ensure that the standard of training is accepted and learners graduating from the centres are successfully accepted in the labour market. Centres that have so far signed the MOU with CETA include:

Learnerships
Learnerships are training programmes that combines theory at a college or training centre with relevant on–the-job training. There is no Learnership if there is no on-the-job training. Through a learnership, people learn all aspects of an occupation by practicing under the guidance of an experienced and qualified person. In order to qualify, a learner should be assessed against occupational standards that have been agreed in advance by industry stakeholders.
Learnerships are based on legally binding agreements between the employer, a learner and a training provider. This agreement spells out the tasks and duties of the employer, the learner and the training provider. It is designed to ensure the quality of training and to protect the interests of each party.
