The Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) supports the sentiments expressed by his Excellency Jacob Zuma, President of the Republic of South Africa in his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, 11 February 2010.
As a public institution that was instituted under the Skills Development Act of 1998, CETA was pleased to learn that the government has placed education and skills development at the centre of government’s policies since the Construction SETA is strategically placed to meet the training and skills development needs of the construction sector.
CETA is geared up to heed President Zuma’s call for faster action and improved State performance. Mr. Petrus Maoko, CETA CEO asserts that, “CETA is setting measures in place that will assist the organization worker faster, harder and smarter to meet the needs of the construction sector and accelerate the turn-around time of internal processes.”
He reiterated that, “The Construction SETA is willing and eager to play its role in the realization of a year of action and swift delivery.” He maintains that CETA is vigorously striving to put in place measures that will make the sentiments of President Zuma a reality within the construction sector.
One way the organization is intending to operationalise SONA is by working to partner with Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges in assisting people interested in entering into this sector do so with ease through the aid of learnership and skills programmes. Further to the organization’s quest to address skills needs of young people, CETA will continue to increase bursaries for students who are interested in studying construction related fields.
CETA is ready to make the construction sector more accessible to women, young people, people with disabilities and rural communities. Mr. Maoko is adamant that, “CETA is prepared and able to answer the call to accelerate skills development within the construction sector.”
